Import customs formalities refers to a st of procedures that must be complied with both by interested parties and Customs officers when bringing goods into a customs territory until the time that documents are submitted to a customs regime. An examlpe follows.[1]

Example of Import Formalities: The Case of Turkey

  1. Conducting the research necessary for preliminary legislative transactions on receiving the order from the customer with a view to completing the importation formalities on a perfectly and timely manner.
  2. Receiving the delivery order from the forwarder.
  3. Having the goods arrived at the customs house unpacked and inspected if there is any suspicion about the goods before issuing the customs entrance declaration.
  4. Identifying the Customs Tariff Numbers of the goods.
  5. Calculating the customs duties and charges.
  6. Starting the customs acceptance and registration formalities and having the goods inspected.
  7. Obtaining the charge slip for or paying in cash the customs duties and charges.
  8. Having the goods transported to the premises designated by the customer and delivered to the authorized persons of the customer.
  9. Closing the guarantee accounts with the banks.
  10. Closing the consumed incentive files and having the guarantee bonds, if any, released.
  11. Receiving the checks for the amount of customs duties and charges, having them blocked by the banks and delivering to the concerned authorities.
  12. Delivering the declarations, registered invoices, receipts and other expenditure documents to the customer on a timely manner.
