Import customs formalities refers to a st of procedures that must be complied with both by interested parties and Customs officers when bringing goods into a customs territory until the time that documents are submitted to a customs regime. An examlpe follows.[1]
Example of Import Formalities: The Case of Turkey
- Conducting the research necessary for preliminary legislative transactions on receiving the order from the customer with a view to completing the importation formalities on a perfectly and timely manner.
- Receiving the delivery order from the forwarder.
- Having the goods arrived at the customs house unpacked and inspected if there is any suspicion about the goods before issuing the customs entrance declaration.
- Identifying the Customs Tariff Numbers of the goods.
- Calculating the customs duties and charges.
- Starting the customs acceptance and registration formalities and having the goods inspected.
- Obtaining the charge slip for or paying in cash the customs duties and charges.
- Having the goods transported to the premises designated by the customer and delivered to the authorized persons of the customer.
- Closing the guarantee accounts with the banks.
- Closing the consumed incentive files and having the guarantee bonds, if any, released.
- Receiving the checks for the amount of customs duties and charges, having them blocked by the banks and delivering to the concerned authorities.
- Delivering the declarations, registered invoices, receipts and other expenditure documents to the customer on a timely manner.
